Our Church Mission

“The goal for the Hilltop Church of Christ is to be, ‘An evangelistic, biblical, family friendly congregation, with a strong campus ministry and which is developing leaders for the church.”

You are the light of the world, like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden - we are Hilltop Church of Christ.

We are the Church of the Bible, having been added by God to the universal church referred to in Acts 2:47.

History

The Hillbrow Church of Christ congregation was started in 1994 by Joe Jones, also known as Peter.

Over the years the congregation has actually reinvented itself several times adapting to the changes in the area. Initially serving the Hillbrow community, the church adapted in 2000 after a significant influx of refugees from French speaking African countries. With our blessing, they moved to Bertrams in 2001 to start a French speaking church.

From 2001 the church primarily focused on being a home for university students from University of Johannesburg and University if Witswatersrand. Over the past several years our youth members have grown and matured and Hilltop now serves a congregation of young families, young professionals and students as a leading church in the Johannesburg region.

Learn About Our Church

We speak where the Bible speaks, and we are silent where the Bible is silent. We are undenominational and have no central headquarters or president. Each congregation of the churches of Christ is autonomous, and it is the Word of God that unites us into One Faith.

The head of the church is none other than Jesus Christ himself

(Ephesians 4:3-6)

What You Can Expect

Prayer: During the worship service several of the men will lead the congregation in public prayers.

Singing: We will sing several songs and hymns together, led by one or more song leaders. These will be sung a capella

The Lord’s Supper: We partake of the Lord’s Supper each Sunday, following the pattern of the first century church.

What You Can Expect

Bible Study: We engage in Bible study, primarily through preaching of the Word, but also through Bible reading and direct teaching. At the close of the sermon, an invitation will be extended to learn more about Christianity, to become a Christian or to ask for prayers from the church.

Our worship service is considered traditional for churches of Christ. We strive to worship God in Spirit and Truth.
